About

OtherBound is a Tasmanian incorporated association based in Launceston. We bring people together around fantasy, science fiction, horror, comics and graphic novels through literary events, creative workshops and conversations.
Why Launceston?
Launceston offers a distinctive home for an event that connects readers, creators and visitors. Our programme begins with Literary Futures and looks toward a recurring festival that gives imaginative literature a national stage in northern Tasmania.
Who is it for?
Readers, writers, artists, booksellers, publishers, educators and anyone who has ever loved a story that opens a door to another world.
What is OtherBound?
OtherBound is a new national festival dedicated to Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, graphic novels, and speculative storytelling in all its forms.
Housed in Launceston, Tasmania, the festival brings together authors, illustrators, comic creators, publishers, editors, educators, and readers from across Australia and beyond.
OtherBound is designed as more than a literary event. It is a celebration of imagination, where storytelling meets art, performance, publishing, and community.
Why Launceston?
Launceston is a city shaped by story.
With its heritage architecture, vibrant cultural institutions, and proximity to wild landscapes like the Cataract Gorge, it provides the perfect setting for a festival built on imagination and world-building – the perfect opportunity to build community around conversation, ideas, and creative exchange, while still embracing Tasmania’s dramatic natural backdrop.
OtherBound positions Launceston as a national hub for speculative literature and creative innovation, drawing visitors, creators, and industry professionals to the north of the state.
